Voyageurs go another weekend without any points

It could have been a great weekend in the standings for the Voyageurs as they were only 3 points behind the NAIT Ooks going into two games head to head.

On Friday evening at home the Voyageurs were able to get a lead in the first period even though they were out-shot and out-played in the first 20 minutes, Leo Keefer popped in a rebound to give Portage a 1-0 lead.

NAIT come out with a fury in the second frame, quickly tying up the game and shortly after adding two more goals too make it a 3-1 visitor lead; with a few minutes left Voyageur Matt Foster was able to make the best of a 2 on 1 and brought the Voyageurs within a goal.

The Ooks scored early into the third period on the man advantage sealing their victory, Voyageur Dustin Popowich scored a late goal but it wasn't enough as the Ooks took it 4-3.

Portage netminder Dallas Ungarian was spectacular making 35 saves and giving his team a chance to win.

On Saturday afternoon Portage rolled on down to Edmonton for game 2 of the weekend with the Ooks, The Voyageurs were much better to start off the game, outshooting NAIT 14-3 but it was a 1-1 tied game after 20 minutes, Taylor Morgan was the 1st period goal scorer.

The great start for the Voyageurs took an ugly turn as NAIT scored less than a minute into the 2nd period of play, The Ooks added to their lead a few minutes later to make it a 3-1 game.

In the final period the Ooks were able to notch 2 goals on 5 shots to make it a 5-1 game, Jackson Wilson had the only Voyageurs goal in the 3rd.

The Voyageurs play Concordia at home this weekend, their last games before the Christmas break.
