The Voyageurs managed 2 of a possible 4 points this past weekend on their longest road trip of the season; Portage beat Briercrest 5-3 Friday evening but was unable to get a second win on Saturday, losing 4-1 to the ACAC's only eastern team.
On Friday evening after a long bus ride the day before, the Voyageurs got off to a great start with three goals in the first period to give them a 3-1 lead, Portage added a goal in the second period to make it 4-1 going into the third, Chris Glen then scored his second goal of the game in the final frame to give the Voyageurs some insurance.
The Clippers were able to notch two goals of their own in the third period, giving the home team some momentum heading into Saturday's game.
Cory Giroux, Matt Foster and Cody Mapes had the other goals, Justin Borsa 34 saves in a
winning effort.
On Saturday the Briercrest Clippers used their strong play in the third period the night before to get themselves a 3-0 lead after only 20 minutes, two of the three goals were score shorthanded; something the Voyageurs have not had a lot of problems with this year.
Portage did not score until the final frame when Matt Foster netted his second of the weekend.
Justin Borsa made 41 saves in the loss, The Voyageurs host the NAIT Ooks Friday at home before a Saturday game back in Edmonton.
