Portage unable to beat league best Trojans

This past weekend the Voyageurs went to Calgary for their annual two games in cow-town against the SAIT Trojans.

In the first game Friday, SAIT gained themselves a 3-0 lead after the first 2 periods, The Voyageurs were able to mount a slight comeback in the final period with goals by Brendan Lamb and Chris Glen but the Trojans weren't done scoring; they added 3 more goals to their tally.

Coach Ewasiuk credited goaltender Dallas Ungurian with having a great game and making many big saves but the physical presence of the Trojans was too much for Portage as the Voyageurs lost another game against the best the ACAC has too offer.

On Saturday afternoon, once again on the SAIT campus the Voyageurs got a great start by keeping the puck out of their net and leaving the 1st period at 0-0.

The second frame was not kind to Portage as they found themselves in some penalty trouble; allowing the Trojans to score on 2-man advantage, SAIT then scored twice more in the middle frame to gain a 3-0 lead.

The Voyageurs came out for the final period with a ton of energy and it began to show on the scoreboard as they brought the game withing two goals; first, captain Brendan Lamb jammed in a loose puck in the crease before Tim Crawley scored his first ever goal as a Voyageur, from a bad angle at the side of the goal.

Several minutes later the Trojans were able to get one back on a rebound chance in the slot, the Voyageurs had a ton of pressure to try and get back within one goal but couldn't score until there was only 30 seconds left and the game was all but over; Matt Foster hammered home a shot from the point to make it 4-3, but that was as close as Portage got.

Dallas Ungurian once again made a plethora of saves in a fine effort, Crawley was named player of the game for the Voyageurs.

Portage plays a home and home with Augustana this weekend as they continue their hunt for the playoffs.
