23 days until first puck drop, new faces on their way

On August 26th the Portage College Voyageurs will play their first game of the pre-season exhibition schedual as the AJHL's Bonnyville Pontiacs roll into town for a Friday night tilt at the Bold Center.

At least 10 new Voyageurs will hit the ice that night for their first ever action in the blue and green.

Among the new faces are several former SJHL players, including two from the Battlefords North Stars; Goaltender Kyle Birch has been named as the starting netminder by Coach Ewasiuk since mid-June. The Winnipeg product started 31 games for the North Stars last season and posted a handsome .890 save percentage with a record of 16-14, the Stars were dumped in the first round of the playoffs.

Joining Birch from Battlefords is Cody Folstad, a Saskatchewan native who spent the last two seasons with the North Stars as an offensive defenseman. Folstad put up 62 points and 16 goals in his two seasons in Battlefords. He will join a defensive core that needs help on the power-play.

On the offensive side of the puck the Voyageurs are welcoming a new core of forwards to replace the likes of Chris Glen, Leo Keefer and Brendan Lamb.

One of the new forwards to Portage is Winnipegs' Jory Geddes who has spent his last five seasons of hockey playing in the MJHL. The left winger has quite the impressive stats with 139 points in 159 games over the last three campaigns, his offense will be needed to replace the scoring touch of Lamb and Glen.

More updates will be on the way before the Voyageurs kick off their 4th season in the ACAC.
