New faces arriving, familiar faces depart

For the first time in their short history, the Voyageurs will begin the season with a team that has only one player remaining from its innaugural season.

The Portage Voyageurs will begin their fourth season in the ACAC without two faces that have been with the team since HHOF'er Frank Mahovlich unveiled the teams' jerseys in early 2007.

Former captain Brendan Lamb will be leaving the program after three years and 67 games in the blue and green, Lamb notched 53 points in that time including 17 goals, Lamb missed most of last season after suffering a leg injury early in the campaign, he is rumoured to be joining the Voyageurs 2010 playoff rivals; the Augustana Vikings.

Another departure from Lac La Biche in the off-season was three year winger Chris Glen, the Vernon B.C product put up 31 goals over the last three seasons and was instrumental in each of the Voyageurs' three playoff appearences.

The Voyageurs are also losing a two year veteran of the program, hard-nosed forward Leo Keefer has decided to pursue his hockey career on another continent, Keefer will be joining a club in Switzerland when the season rolls around, the 5'7 winger tallied 27 points in his two years and was a former Voyageur Scholastic player of the year.

For Voyageur fans the news of the departure of a fan favorite player, is no suprise, as it happens every summer when these young men decide to pursue a new avenue in the careers, whether those careers include hockey or not, we wish them all the best in the future endeavours.

As these players solidify their positions on other teams and in other post secondary schools, the Voyageurs, and Lac La Biche, prepare to welcome a new group of players to cheer at the Bold Center.
